    Celebration of WNMU Writers.  3 pm, WNMU Miller Library.  Sharman Apt Russell, director of the Writing Across the Curriculum program, introduce the “chorus of voices” who represent work from many disciplines.  Readers include Dr. Joseph Shepard, WNMU President; Dr. Mark Chu, a professor in the Social Sciences Department; Dr. Mary Leen, Humanities Department professor; Ann Marie Elder,  professor of Theatre Arts;  Dr. Manda Jost, professor of Biology in the Natural Sciences Department;  J. J. Wilson, WNMU’s writer-in-residence; Andrea Jaquez, public service librarian at Miller Library; and Dr. Suk-Jun Kim, a professor of Sound in the Expressive Arts Department. Topics range from an interpretation of Italo Calvino’s Invisible Cities to the history of Fort Bayard.  To show students and the community how the faculty and staff at Western use writing in their professional lives.

    Gila Native Plant Society.  7 pm. Rm 110 WNMU Harlan Hall.  Program by Mark Dimmitt on The Madrean Sky Island Archipelago: Summary of Recent Botanical Surveys, with Notes on the Aftermath of the Monument Fire in the Huachuca Mountains. In part audience participation event, with attendees pointing out differences and commonalities between local flora and that of the Sonora Desert.  Dimmitt has worked at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum for over 30 years as curator of botany and as a field ecologist. Free and open to the public.  Refreshments after program.
    Russell Scharf Jazz Trio.   7-10 pm.  Buckhorn Saloon, Pinos Altos. From ABQ.
    Evolution of Music: Celebrate the Evolution of Music and the Influence of African American Musicians from Past to Present. 8 pm, WNMU Student Memorial Center, first floor.  Black History month event sponsored by WNMU Multicultural and Student Activities.

Rodeo had .06 rain during the night and snow in the Chiricahua mountains and in the Peloncillo Mountains. This is so good you must really like the moisture in Silver City also.
