Grant County Annual Chess Championship


It's a cold 14 degrees at this morning... when i first woke up and looked it was 18. Predictions are for highs to only reach the 30's for the next few days.

    Grant County Annual Chess Championship.  Sponsored by the Silver High Chess Team.  Registration starts at 8:35 a.m. at Silver High Library/ Cafeteria.  9-2 no elimination and two sections: advanced and playing for fun.  Advanced player entrance fee $5, playing for fun entrance fee $2.  Call Mike Giusto for more information.  Bring a chess clock if you have one.

    Land Link Forum. 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Grant County Admin Bld. 1400 Hwy 180 East. A meeting to connect farmers, landowners and investors. Land Link is a program in Central New Mexico that helps connect farmers and ranchers looking for land and farming opportunity to agricultural landowners.     The City of Rocks, located in Grant County 33 miles south of Silver City, hosts regular astronomy observations through its 14-inch telescope (donated to the Park by Gene Simons), with astronomer Matt Wilson, starting at sundown and ending just before 9:00 pm.  The observatory is located in the roll-off roof building just behind the Orion Group parking area across from Park restrooms accessible on the right-hand road into the park.  Access requires a $5 day pass per car load of folks.  Matt will discuss seasonal constellations and their lore, the Solar System with visible planets and their moons, and will offer observations on deep sky objects as visibility permits.  For more information, contact Matt at matthewdwilson@q.com.
